Vince Camuto died from cancer Wednesday in his Greenwich, Connecticut, home at the age of 78, reports WWD.

The fashion fixture was celebrated for his ability to make fashion accessible as one of the co-founders of Nine West back in 1978, before selling it to the Jones Group Inc. for $900 million in 1999.

In 2001, Camuto continued to build his incredible empire by creating the Camuto Group, which would later become a multi-billion dollar business, licensing some of the biggest women’s brands like BCBG, Tory Burch, and his own namesake line.

Camuto is survived by his wife and five children.
