It has finally been ruled by a federal jury that Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams did steal “Blurred Lines,” after Marvin Gaye‘s went through with a lawsuit against them for copyright infringement.

According to the LA Times, the jury found the singer and producer infringed the 2013 smash hit from the late artist’s classic track, “Got To Give It Up,” and awarded his family $7.3 million.

The site reports:

Jurors found against singer-songwriters Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke, but held harmless the record company and rapper T.I.

The verdict capped a trial that lasted more than a week and focused on the similarities between the song and the legendary soul singer’s 1977 hit.

The jurors began deliberating Thursday afternoon.

While the two took the witness stand, Pharrell revealed that he had written the song alone, without any input from Robin, and the Marvin Gaye song was not discussed as an influence during its creation.

A rep for Pharrell released a statement to Rolling Stone responding to the news, stating:

“While we respect the judicial process, we are extremely disappointed in the ruling made today, which sets a horrible precedent for music and creativity going forward. Pharrell created ‘Blurred Lines’ from his heart, mind and soul and the song was not taken from anyone or anywhere else. We are reviewing the decision, considering our options and you will hear more from us soon about this matter.”

We will keep you posted on if any more news develops post-lawsuit.
