Mos Def was allegedly arrested in South Africa for fraudulent immigration documents, reports ABC News.

The rapper appeared in South African court after being taken into custody at Cape Town’s airport. The Department of Home Affairs spokesperson explained that the hip-hop star, who now goes by Yasiin Bey, was held for producing an unrecognized “world passport” when he tried to fly out of the country, reports the site.

The entertainer (real name Dante Terrell Smith) has lived in South Africa since May 2013, but he over-stayed his visitors visa in 2014.

Smith has been issued a court order stating he is banned from the country for five years. The 42-year-old is asking the judge for leniency with his family by his side.

We will keep you posted as the latest unfolds.
