It looks like this season of New York Fashion Week was the last for Ajak Deng.
Following fierce walks down the runway for designers Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, Tome, and more this month, the 26-year-old model has announced her retirement. Deng took to Instagram to share her decision, writing:
“I am happy to announce that I am officially done with the fashion industry, I will be moving back to Australia in order to live the life that I fully deserved. Which is real life.”
She then appeared to voice her frustrations with the industry before ending the post on a graceful note, continuing: “I can no longer deal with the fakes and the lies. My life is too short for this dramatic life. I am thankful and grateful for every sweet souls that I have crossed path with.”
Originally from South Sudan, Deng fled to Melbourne in 2005 before beginning her career in 2008. We’re wishing her the best.
