Following a sit down interview with Nightline reporter Linsey Davis, where the New Orleans rapper dismisses the Black Lives Matter movement, Weezy’s camp demanded that ABC pull the interview. The network did not comply. According to TMZ, Wayne allegedly fired his publicist when the interview ultimately aired.
When asked if he feels connected to the movement and the issues of police brutality and racism that sparked the movement, Wayne angrily replied, “I don’t feel connected to a damn thing that ain’t got nothing to do with me. I am a young, black, rich motherf—er,” he said. “If that don’t let you know that America understand black motherf—ers matter these days, I don’t know what it is.”
Lil’ Wayne’s explanation of his shocking words provides a bit of context about what exactly set him off. “When the reporter began asking me questions about my daughter being labeled a b—h and a h-e, I got agitated,” he told TMZ. “From there, there was no thought put into her questions and my responses.”
ABC confirmed they provided Lil’ Wayne with no pre-approved questions ahead of the interview and nothing was off limits.
