Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have officially severed all ties since their highly publicized divorce. And now Amber is speaking out, using her own experience with domestic violence to bring awareness to the issue.
Teaming up with multi-media project #Girlgaze, Heard released a tearful and heartfelt PSA reflecting on her past experiences with domestic violence and urging women currently battling this to speak up.
“As a woman having gone through this on a public stage…in the public arena that I did it in, I have a unique opportunity to remind other women, ‘This doesn’t have to be the way it is,’” Heard said. “You don’t have to do it alone. You’re not alone.” She closed out the video thanking the women in her life for their support in helping her escape
Depp and Heard’s 15-month marriage came to a devastating halt when Heard accused her A-list husband of getting violent with her. Soon after, media outlets began circulating photos of Heard bruised and battered, allegedly at the hands of Johnny. Everything came to a head when a video of of a drunk Depp being belligerent and aggressive with Amber in their home was leaked online. Depp eventually agreed to pay Heard a divorce settlement of $7 million – all of which she donated to charity.
