Chemical relaxers are a tricky thing in the hair community because while it’s praised for it’s sleek, straightening effects, it has also been known to burn a scalp or two, or three.

According to reports, lawyers representing women who claim a L’Oréal hair relaxer burned their head aren’t just suing, but they’re demanding an urgent recall of the product. The beauty company was sued for their product called the Softsheen Carson Optimum Amla Legend Relaxer Kit after two women suffered scalp burns. They claimed the relaxer caused hair loss.

L’Oréal responded to the claims saying its packaging clearly instructs consumers on how to use it safely. But lawyers Ben Meiselas and Mark Geragos are calling out the beauty company, saying although L’Oréal is admitting that the product has dangerous chemicals, they still advertise that it “protects the scalp and skin.”

Not only is Geragos’ firm helping the women receive their millions of dollars in damages for the relaxer, but they’re reaching to have the product pulled from the market altogether so that no other women will have to experience those horrifying, balding effects.

A class action for $5 million was filed back in September.
