It’s almost April 1st, so you know what that means — it’s almost time for the fun foolishness of April Fool’s Day. Be careful though, everyone isn’t down to be pranked. Some people find it funny, but prank the wrong person and they’ll want smoke.

“Dear Black people DO NOT I repeat DO NOT try to pull an April fools prank on Black parents it won’t end well. You won’t live to tell the story.”- @thabo

How did April Fool’s Day even become a thing though? According to History.com:

“Some historians speculate that April Fools’ Day dates back to 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563. People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes.”

“April Fools’ Day spread throughout Britain during the 18th century. In Scotland, the tradition became a two-day event, starting with ‘hunting the gowk,’ in which people were sent on phony errands (gowk is a word for cuckoo bird, a symbol for fool) and followed by Tailie Day, which involved pranks played on people’s derrieres, such as pinning fake tails or ‘kick me’ signs on them.”

In true American form, we took a silly tradition and Nationalized it into a whole experience. Generally, folks play games and joke around all day — but on April 1st, the ante is upped.

“I’ll bet 5$ that April 1st comes around and Donald Trump announces that his presidency is actually the best April fools joke of all time.” – @ChandlerShelz

With so much happening in a world, it’s healthy that we as a country carve out some time to simply enjoy some fun, some pranks and some laughter — as long as no one is harmed in the process.

“Spend five minutes on Twitter and you realise the world’s a load of shit with lot’s of horrible people. We need more love in the world. A lot of it.” @bazh
