FOX's 'Empire' - Season Two

It seems that FOX and Jussie Smollett have come to an agreement as far as Empire is concerned. The actor was accused of staging his own attack back in January, and although he was later cleared of all charges, Smollett is now facing a civil suit from the city of Chicago. In the wake of his continued legal trouble, FOX Entertainment released a statement concerning the fate of Smollett and his character, the adored Jamal Lyon:

“By mutual agreement, the studio has negotiated an extension to Jussie Smollett’s option for season six, but at this time there are no plans for the character of Jamal to return to Empire,” the studio said in a statement, Billboard reports.

According to the site, a rep for Smollett previously said “We’ve been told that Jussie will not be on Empire in the beginning of the season but he appreciates they have extended his contract to keep Jamal’s future open. Most importantly he is grateful to Fox and Empire leadership, cast, crew and fans for their unwavering support.”

We hope to see him back on the show soon.
