This past weekend, Ray J almost came face-to-face with Whitney Houston when he was rushed to the hospital for “exhaustion.” Turns out once he got checked in, doctors were trying to make sure that a blood clot didn’t enter his lungs.

A near lethal diagnosis is serious stuff, but when you’re making moves like Ray J and living the life of a rock star, these are the types of things you come expect. I’m talking near death experiences, while trying to bang the baddest chicks, do the best drugs, and show up to events 7 Rolls Royces deep. Now that’s not to say that Ray J is on drugs. I don’t know him from a can of paint.
I can only imagine how many times Amy Winehouse, Ozzy Osbourne and Rick James stared death in the eye.
All I know is that rappers and singers make songs about drugs and make it seem like they are about that life.

“She’s all that I need, I’m filling your cup up with Sprite and codeine, she get me so high…Your life or that lean?”
The Weeknd has three mixtapes full of tales of lean, coke and other drugs. Drake has been spotted in public double-cupped up and the first time I saw 2 Chainz, he was walking around with a styrofoam cup which read “Codeine Cowboy.”
If I didn’t know any better, I would think you had to be an addict in order to be a musician.
I fully understand these folks are living the life. They are their own bosses and they have enough money to do as they please. But when is someone going to step in and say, “Hey homie, slow down on the lean!” or “Let’s not get high tonight”?
I am just sick of writing about people dying. I’m tired of hearing about lives lost too soon and MC So-and-So stumbles out of an event high or drunk.
I can’t help but wonder, where are their friends?
We all like to get f*cked up every now and then. This weekend I plan on getting white boy wasted once or twice, but it’s not something I do every day. If it was, one of my friends would step in and say, ‘Hey, is everything OK? Can I help you with something? Do you need to talk?’
These days our favorite celebs claim they are about that life, but what happens when that life takes their life? I wonder, will they be about that? Unfortunately, by that point they’ll have no choice…
