We’ve heard of children being victims of gun violence, but now, another child is actually to blame.

In New Jersey, a 6-year-old boy named Brandon Holt died after being shot in the head by his 4-year-old playmate. The two were playing in the yard when the 4-year-old went inside to retrieve a .22 caliber rifle.

“The 4-year-old … retrieved a rifle within the house, a .22-caliber rifle, came outside,” said Police Chief Michael Mastronardy. “… A shot went out and the 6-year-old was struck in the head.”

The entire town is left devastated, especially Brandon’s family members.

“It’s really difficult to deal with,” said Brandon’s uncle, Daniel Watkins. “This is something that shouldn’t have happened. It’s horrible.”

Family friends remember Brandon fondly.
