Over 250,000 accounts were attacked by anonymous hackers on Twitter this week who gained access to their information and passwords.

According to the Huffington Post, the social networking site said in a blog post that the passwords were “encrypted” and already reset as a “precautionary network”.

The blog post stated:

“This attack was not the work of amateurs, and we do not believe it was an isolated incident,” Twitter said. “The attackers were extremely sophisticated, and we believe other companies and organizations have also been recently similarly attacked.”

The site also said that government officials are working hard to investigate the attackers, but they are suspicious of them coming from China, since that’s where recent hackers of the NY Times and the Wall Street Journal came from.

Spokesman Jim Prosser said in a statement:

“There is no evidence right now that would indicate that passwords were compromised.”

Hopefully these hackers are found and prevented from doing any damage to more website.
