On the heels of news that 30 House Democrats will arrive at President Obama’s State of the Union Address with gun victim guests, it has been confirmed that Hadiya Pendleton’s parents will also attend to keep pressure on gun safety legislation.
Cleopatra Cowley-Pendleton and Nathaniel A. Pendleton will join the First Lady Michelle Obama at the address on Tuesday, as the President urges Congress to combat gun violence. Their 15-year-old daughter was shot and killed on Chicago’s South Side just days after she performed in the President’s second inauguration.
According to the Chicago Tribune:
The First Lady’s box at the address will include Americans from middle class families whose lives the president believes would be improved by his policy proposals. Obama will talk about how to help victims of gun violence, military families and immigrants, aides say.
