The Miami Heat are one win away from becoming NBA champions. That’s right, one of the most hated teams in all of sports is about to rub it in the faces of all their detractors. So get ready.

There is going to be a sea of red, white and black jerseys flowing across your town and there is nothing you can do about it. People that you didn’t even think were into basketball will be rocking LeBron James jerseys at work. Your idiot brother-in-law will be telling you how LeBron is the greatest player of all time. We’re talking total mayhem here.

The thing is, LeBron and company totally deserve this title. They’ve earned it. And LeBron deserves the Finals MVP. He’s had a great regular season and an even better post-season. He’s silenced a lot of haters with his spectacular play and overall dominance. While I thought Kevin Durant should have been the regular season MVP, James has won me over.

I’m certainly not going to become a Heat fan, but I can appreciate good basketball when I see it.

But what about all those people that will never be swayed to LeBron’s side? (Cleveland, I’m looking in your direction.) This is going to be a living nightmare for them.

The city of Cleveland is about to go on suicide watch and I feel for them. They had their heart ripped out on national TV and now they are going to have to watch the person that did it be crowned an NBA champion. It’s like having your girlfriend dump you in front of all your friends and then two years later she’s dating Kanye West. Nobody can feel good about that.

The only thing that will prevent a Heat title are a monumental collapse, a severe injury (something I would never wish on any player) or a real zombie outbreak in South Beach. So unless the Dan Gilbert air drops a boatload of bath salts into the Miami Metro area, the Heat should be hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy Thursday night.

Get ready, because it’s going to happen.

If you are one of those people who just hate the Heat I suggest you stay away from TV, radio and the internet for the next week or so. It’s the only way you are going to keep your sanity. Either that, or start drinking right now.

So congratulations to the Heat and their fans. You earned this one.

I’m going to go start drinking now.
