The Sesame Workshop released a statement this morning requesting the Obama campaign remove the political ad featuring Mitt Romney’s attack on Big Bird. Their statement reads:

Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns. We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down.

President Obama has been poking fun at Governor Mitt Romney since the Republican candidate promised to cut funding for PBS last week at the presidential debate in Denver.

Romney specifically targeted America’s favorite big yellow bird, making it clear that Big Bird would get the boot if he became president.

Now, the Obama campaign has fired back with a funny new ad, featuring a sarcastic spin that depicts Big Bird as an “evil genius,” comparing him to infamous white collar crooks Bernie Madoff and Ken Lay.

The narrator speaks: “Big. Yellow. A menace to our economy. Mitt Romney knows it’s not Wall Street you have to worry about, it’s Sesame Street. Mitt Romney. Taking on our enemies, no matter where they nest.”

In response, Republican Sen. John McCain criticized the new ad, telling NBC’s Today Show that the President is out of ideas.

“It may show a paucity of ideas and ways to criticize Mitt Romney. The fact is the economy is still in very bad shape, and obviously the American people are still in very difficult conditions, and the one thing President Obama can’t run on is his record. So I guess Big Bird’s a fun thing to talk about. I love Big Bird. I’m for an earmark for Big Bird.”

The American people much rather the government get tough on Wall Street, not Sesame Street. Again, this shows just how out of touch Money Mitt really is from the rest of the country!
