In 2004, Nike teamed up with the Portland, Oregon non-profit Doernbecher Children’s Hospital to create a limited edition pair of sneakers called the “Doernbecher Freestyle Collection.”

STORY: The Nike Lebrons Are Here & Guess Who Gets Em First? China!

Physicians and staff carefully nominate a handful of patients who overcame an illness to participate in creating a colorway for a pre-existing shoe. The children become “Freestyle designers” when they meet a design mentor and are given free artistic license to brainstorm and create their very own shoe.

This year the shoes used were the Air Jordan 4, Nike Dunk High Skinny, Nike SB V-Rod, Nike Shox NZ, Nike Air Max 95, and Nike Free Run 2.

The Doernbecher Freestyle Collection will be released on November 8th and proceeds from the sales of the shoes are donated to the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

You can take a look at the entire Doernbecher Freestyle Collection, as well as prices for each shoe, in the accompanying gallery!
