Jeremy Scott has long been known for his over the top designs with brands like Adidas, which epitomized childhood favorites like the plush teddy bear. But when Jeremy tried to play off the childhood toy, My Pet Monster, the backlash he got was harsh, with many claiming that his sneakers had an underlying racist tone.

While on the BET Awards Red Carpet, we caught up with Jeremy, who was on the scene with Harlem’s own A$AP Rocky. Jeremy spoke exclusively with GlobalGrind about Adidas pulling his sneakers.

In addition to expressing his sincerity about the innocence of his design, Jeremy also spoke about his relationship with A$AP Rocky. He compares their upbringings, noting how his youth growing up on a farm, and Rocky being born and bred in the Harlem streets, is to credit for them both learning how to come from nothing to something humbly.
