Koopsta Knicca, a founding member of rap group Three 6 Mafia, died early Friday morning, according to Commercial Appeal. The 40-year-old suffered a stroke last weekend.

In a statement to Commercial Appeal, DJ Paul said, “Everyone who knew Koop knew he was very funny and the coolest guy ever. He will be missed. We made classics together that’ll live on.”

Koopsta Knicca, whose birth name is Robert Cooper Phillips, founded Three 6 Mafia back in 1994 and remained a member until 2000. He than rejoined the group in 2013 as they released a new album entitled Watch What U Wish…. He also established himself as a solo artist beginning in 1999 with Da Devil’s Playground: Underground Solo, and held strong for years to come.

This is the second death the group has suffered recently as Lord Infamous, who’s also DJ Paul’s half-brother, died in 2013 of a heart attack.
