Sophia Amoruso

We’re excited for this one.

According to Variety, Netflix is teaming up with Charlize Theron and Pitch Perfect writer Kay Cannon to bring #GirlBoss to our living rooms. The series, based on Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso, will chronicle Sophia’s rise from eBay seller to powerful CEO.

Theron will executive produce alongside Laverne McKinnon, Beth Kono, and Sophia herself. Cannon will also executive produce, while acting as showrunner and writer. Sophia’s autobiography, #GirlBoss, has basically become a staple in the hands of young female entrepreneurs. So the series is sure to be a hit.

Unfortunately, as the good news floods in for their founder, things aren’t as positive at Nasty Gal – the company just laid off nineteen employees.

In a statement to WWD, CEO Sheree Waterson confirmed the layoffs:

“Today we had to layoff 19 employees as part of a strategic restructuring,” said Sheree Waterson, Nasty Gal chief executive officer, in a statement today. “While this was a difficult decision to make, it is necessary and will allow us to continue to evolve as a company.”
