No stranger to outlandish statements, conservative commentator Ann Coulter made it clear she does not believe that the struggle for immigrant rights, women or gays in America are civil rights issues, during her appearance on ABC’s This Week With George Stephanopoulos on Sunday

Seemingly out-of-touch with the oppression of these minority groups in the US, the fiery pundit dismissed them with a very colorful choice of words:

“I think the way liberals have treated blacks like children and many of their policies have been harmful to blacks, at least they got the beneficiary group right. There is the legacy of slavery and Jim Crow laws. We don’t owe the homeless. We don’t owe feminists. We don’t owe women who are desirous of having abortions or gays who want to get married to one another. That’s what civil rights has become for much of the left.”

Baffled by her off the wall remarks, Stephanopoulos reiterated Coulter’s statement. “Immigrant rights are not civil rights?” he asked, to which she replied:

“No. I think civil rights are for blacks. What have we done to the immigrants? We owe black people something. We have a legacy of slavery. Immigrants haven’t even been in this country.”

Ouch! Coulter may be misinformed: the fact alone that up to ten million Hispanics could be disenfranchised from voting in the upcoming election is indeed an attack on their civil rights. What do you think?
