The horror of Trayvon Martin‘s death isn’t covered on national news as prominently as it once was. The 911 calls that captured the final moments of his life aren’t heard nearly as much. But for Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, the pain of their 17-year-old son’s death still hurts the same and they haven’t stopped fighting yet.

On CNN last night, both Martin and Fulton appeared with Piers Morgan to discuss Trayvon’s untimely death a year later and what the future may hold for them.

“We (want to) make sure that no other parents have to go through what we have gone through in the last year,” Fulton told CNN’s Piers Morgan on Monday night.

The two went from grieving parents to the voice against gun violence and vigilante justice in a matter of a year since Trayvon’s shooting, and their commitment continues to remain strong; their loss has even sparked support for other gun tragedies across America, including Newtown.

“It’s just too much senseless violence; it’s overwhelming the homes right now,” Tracy Martin said Monday, referring to the Newtown massacre as well as murders in places like Chicago. “We, as parents, certainly feel the pain.”

But they also realize that as much as they trump gun violence and denounce gunman George Zimmerman‘s actions, the murder case is now out of their hands.

“We just want to have that trial, and let the jury decide,” she said. “And whatever decision comes out of that, we’re going to accept that.

“We may not like it, but we’re going to accept it.”

Fulton added that, to a large extent, she and Martin have gotten what they asked for. Zimmerman was arrested and, unless something unforeseen happens, he will stand trial.

But family lawyer, Benjamin Crump, asked rhetorically if Zimmerman is “not held accountable, what message does that send to the next child that’s killed, unarmed, on the ground?”

Only time will tell what happens to Zimmerman. The trial is scheduled for June 10.

As always, our thoughts and prayers go out to Trayvon’s family. We will never forget.
