It’s been 17 years since grunge rocker Kurt Cobain’s suicide and people are still affected by his music. Many people only think he affected his grunge rock hardcore hipster fans back in the early ’90s, but hip-hop loves Kurt Cobain just as much as the next grunge kid.

Jay-Z was spotted sitting courtside at a New Jersey Net’s game rocking a Kurt Cobain t-shirt and he isn’t the only hip-hop head with Kurt Cobain on his mind. Rappers such as Fabolous, Lil Wayne, Eminem and super group N.E.R.D. have all shouted out or mentioned Kurt Cobain in their rhymes.

In Ryan Leslie‘s song “Addiction,” Fabolous rapped “And I get so much attention/they sit and talk about me like intervention/they say that white phantom look so cocaine/I hop out the suicides lookin’ so Cobain/and I just Courtney Love when they know your name.”

Hip-hop group N.E.R.D. rapped in one of their songs, “Am I High,” “See I know pain/keep’em high like Kurt Cobain.”

Eminem rapped, “My favorite color is red/like blood shed/from Kurt Cobain’s head/when he shot himself dead.”

Lil Wayne rapped, “You know Young Wayne in here/smellin’ teen spirit like Kurt Cobain is here.”
