Happy Star Wars Day, y’all!
May 4 is usually known around the world as “Star Wars Day,” so don’t be surprised if you hear or may have heard, “May the 4th be with you” all day today. The saying is in reference to the popular phrase in Star Wars: “May the Force be with you,” and dates back to 1979, the day Margaret Thatcher was elected Britain’s first woman prime minster. Thatcher’s party took out a newspaper ad in the London Evening News that said “May the Fourth be with you, Maggie. Congratulations.”
Though not a typical holiday from your wack day job, fellow ‘Star Wars’-obsessed junkies crash at each other’s cribs and watch the entire series on VHS or DVD. If you’re in Japan, you might watch it on laser disc. Snacks, lightsabers and Star Wars-themed toys are usually at hand and streets become littered with Lightsaber fights.
Some people, however, take their love of Star Wars too far, employ its memorabilia in criminal adventures and/or add a twist to the Empire.

Vader marched into a Chase bank in Setauket around 11:30 a.m. on July 22, 2010, whipped out his hammer, instead of his Lightsaber and demanded cash be stuffed into a Yankee backpack.
