RAVE REVIEWS: Drake’s “Take Care” Album
Drake’s new album Take Care puts the P in phenomenal and the R in real.
Creating a new sub-genre of emo-rap music plagued by life’s perils, Drake includes his most intimate situations and humanizing moments and wraps them all up in a bundle of magic entitled Take Care.
NEW MUSIC: Drake & The Weeknd “The Ride”
The Grammy nominated 24-year-old rapper’s new album boasts 19 well thought-out tracks that not only show Drizzy’s ability as a rapper/singer, but also highlights his ability to relate to his listeners via his usual stories about love lost, haters, and his newfound fame.
One of Drake’s biggest appeals is his relatability, which translates into his music. Drake raps and sings about things that every other rapper, besides Kanye, is afraid to acknowledge.
Besides his honest emo moments, Drake’s appreciation for composition and production, thanks to his best friend/producer Noah “40” Shebib, is reminiscent of his break out mixtape So Far Gone, which many people prefer over his debut album Thank Me Later which went #1 on Billboard Top 200 and is certified platinum.

Although the album features a majority of slow jams, Drake manages to engage his listeners with catchy hooks graced by melodic beats.
GlobalGrind decided to review a few of our favorite tracks off Drake’s new album below!
The opening track, “Over My Dead Body,” immediately captures the listener as Drake claims his stake in the rap game, while refusing to let anyone take his shine.
“Over My Dead Body”– This piano riddled track is slow, melodic, and boasts the voice of fellow Canadian Chantal Kreviazuk. The intro is slightly intoxicating with its airy flow that makes the listener feel as if they’re floating.
Memorable Lines: “You know I want it all, and then some/shout out to Asian girls, let the lights dim sum.” “They got me on these white women like Seal n*gga/ slave to the p*ssy, but I’m just playing the field n*gga.”
“Camera/ Good One’s Interlude”– Basslines, Drake’s bassy voice, heavy 808s, and samples from Jon B.’s “Calling On You” makes this track a fan favorite. Although the track is slow in tempo, it’s definitely a track where the listener can bop or two-step despite its lack of rhythmic notes. By the time “Camera” flows into “Good One’s,” the listener should be lost in trance. Definitely a chill banger.
Memorable Lines: “She look like a star/ but only on camera/ it look like we in love/ but only on camera.”
“HYFR (Hell Yea F*ckin Right)” – Between Drake’s machine gun flow and Lil Wayne’s slurred speech, this track is a banger. Hell Yeah! “HYFR” is a response to all the critics and journalists who asks the same old questions. If you’re wondering if Drake and Lil Wayne enjoy their lives as rappers, the answer is “Hell Yeah, F*ckin Right.”
Memorable Lines: “Do you love this sh*t/are you high right now/do you ever get nervous/are you single/I heard you f*cked your girl, is it true/you getting money/You think them n*ggas you with is with you?”
Overall, Drake’s Take Care is something special for the Toronto repping rapper. He’s moving hip-hop music to the next level, and fans will either love it or love it. There’s no hating Drake’s new album whatsoever.
