It’s the dream of many artists to have their work displayed to over 50 million people at one time, and for Brian Donnelly, this dream is about to come true. His “Companion” figure will be featured as one of the balloons in the upcoming Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade!

KAWS, as Brian is known to his fans, grew up in New Jersey where he would watch the parade on TV.

“It was more important than the holiday itself. To have my character in a lineup with Snoopy and Kermit is a real dream,” says the artist.

Macy’s set out to find an artist that would appeal to people from the age of two on up, and KAWS reportedly kept making his way to the top of their list.

His “Companion” is a well known figure to fans. The figure sits with his gloved hands covering his face, as if he were ashamed or crying. Kaws has said that the pose is reminiscent of Rodin’s celebrated sculpture “The Thinker.”

KAWS is in good company at the parade, joined by the likes of Tom Otterness, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami and Tim Burton who have also created “flying art” for the parade.

KAWS is currently working on the Companion balloon at Macy’s New Jersey studio. We can’t wait to see the finished product!
