The case of 21-year-old Chavis Carter is baffling to everyone; and many are still asking how a man handcuffed sitting in the back of a patrol car could shoot himself in the head.

STORY: Really?! Jonesboro Police Release A Reenactment Video Of Chavis Carter Shooting

That question and many others will be answered, as the FBI will now conduct their own investigation into the bizarre shooting.

Yesterday Chavis’ mother Teresa Carter met with the Justice Department after seeing a video created by Jonesboro police to explain the death of her son.

“Look where the handcuffs are…I’m still not buying that,” she said.

The tape shows several officers, about the same size as Carter, in a squad car with cuffs on, who are able to pull out a hidden gun and put it to their head.

As for the shooting, according to KSDK News:

In the incident report, one of the officers heard “a loud thump with a metallic sound” but thought it came from a vehicle that ran over a piece of metal on the roadway.

[Reporter]: “Don’t your officers know the sound of a gun being fired?”

“One would think, but when those guns are in a confined space like the rear of a police car, it could be very very different,” said Yates.

It wasn’t until the officers were about to leave when police say one of them smelled something burning in his vehicle. The chief says it was likely gun smoke. That’s when police say the officer found Carter bloodied and slumped over in the backseat.

The officers say they called an ambulance and tried to revive Carter, but he died at the hospital.

Family and friends say it all just doesn’t add up. Carter’s mother says that her son was shot in the right side of the head, but she points out that he was left-handed.

She also said that her son called his girlfriend from the scene to tell her he’d phone her from jail, which to her raises the question, does that sound like someone planning to commit suicide?

Yesterday Jonesboro police released a video reenactment of how Carter could have shot and killed himself while handcuffed, while using an officer matching Carter’s height and weight. Take a look…
