More details are beginning to emerge in the bizarre death of Katy Perry’s ex-boyfriend, actor Johnny Lewis.

STORY: Johnny Lewis, Katy Perry’s Ex-Boyfriend, Found Dead In L.A. Home

Lewis reportedly killed his 81 year-old landlord, Catherine Davis, before falling to his death off the roof of his home.

Reports are swirling that suggest the former O.C. actor was a Scientologist who frequented the controversial church daily.

According to RadarOnline:

Lewis, who is suspected of murdering his elderly landlady six days after being released from jail was a high profile Scientologist.

The troubled 28-year-old is listed on numerous websites, message boards and blogs as being a member of the controversial religion.

The gruesome details of the murder also revealed that Lewis bludgeoned and dismembered his landlady’s cat.

According to TMZ, Lewis kicked and beat the furry feline with his bare hands.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ Lewis went wild on landlady Catherine Davis’ cat … kicking and beating the life out of the animal and “tearing it apart.” Law enforcement tells us Lewis did NOT use a weapon, but rather his bare hands and feet.

As for the on-going investigation, police believe Lewis was on drugs, either PCP, meth or ‘smiles,’ a new designer drug officially known as C2-I, during the bizarre attack on Wednesday morning, according to the ABC News.

Before the attack, Lewis had spent about six weeks behind bars for assault with a deadly weapon. Earlier this year, the actor pleaded no contest to first-degree burglary and received 291 days in jail, plus three years probation.

LAPD Commander Andrew Smith told ABC News affiliate KABC:

“The best we’re piecing together now is that it appears that some type of altercation occurred inside of the house resulting in the death of the woman.”

LAPD believes that Lewis is the only suspect in the case.

As for Davis, the 81-year-old landlord was a Hollywood legend who rented out her home to some of the biggest stars in show biz.

As TMZ reports:

The home — located in Los Feliz, CA — is known as the “Writer’s Villa” … and before it became a crime scene, it was touted as a giant Bed and Breakfast-style property composed of 5 suites and a guesthouse which rented out for $1,650 to $3,000 per month.

Because of its prime location right near the famous Hollywood sign, the home was a favorite for celebrities of all sorts … including:

Thomas Jane (“Hung,” The Punisher”)

Chris Parnell (“SNL,” “30 Rock)

Parker Posey (all sorts of indie flicks)

Paula Poundstone (comedian)

Matt Bomer (“Chuck,” “White Collar”)

The bizarre case of Johnny Lewis continues to be investigated, as LAPD tries to determine a motive for the gruesome murder.
