Facebook made a big announcement today. The one billion member social network announced they will have a new “Home” on Android.

Although Facebook is no stranger to the cell phone market, this will be their first in the Android market. Back in 2011 HTC launched two Facebook branded cellphones that were thought to do well, but inevitably fell to the wasteside.

Facebook alluded to their new Home operating system by teasing us with the tagline “Come see our new Home on Android” which many thought was going to be an operating system.

According to Mashable:

Facebook Home will put updates from the social network right on the home screen via a feature called Cover Feed. Content from Facebook takes up the entire screen, with no navigation or “chrome” whatsoever. Apps are still there, accessed through a launcher that is accessible by swiping up.

Facebook is used 3 times more than any other app and most of the time when people check their phones for the purpose of social networking.

Facebook Home will have another fun feature Chat Heads.

Chat Heads is a way to manage conversations with friends. People you’re interacting with via Facebook Messenger appear a pop-up heads on the margin as opposed to intrusive notifications. Chat Heads work with Facebook Messenger and SMS, but not third-party messaging apps.

Not to outdo themselves, Facebook also introduced the latest Facebook phone in collaboration with AT&T and HTC, the HTC First which is set for release April 12 at $99.99 with a two year contract.

The HTC first will be the first phone that is totally integrated with the Facebook Home out of the box and will also be supported by the power of AT&T’s 4G network.
