When Nick Cannon first met Amanda Bynes, she was a hilarious young television star. She and Nick starred alongside one another on the hit sketch comedy series All That. The two eventually parted ways and went on to have their own careers; Amanda landed countless movie roles and had a very successful acting career. Now, 27-years-old, Amanda has retired from the silver screen and is known for her Twitter rants and rap sheet more than anything else.

After trying to get through to Amanda on the phone, Nick decided to reach out to the fellow  All That alumni in a letter written from the heart. He shared the letter on his personal website:

“I tweeted a few weeks about how the entertainment industry just consumes people and spits them out like flavorless bubblegum,” he wrote. “A few chews of enjoyment then they’re under a city bus bench. Don’t get me wrong this is not a pity for the popular statement. I am always the first to say that fam and entertainment is one of the best and easiest occupations to ever have, but one must know how to navigate through the matrix or you may find yourself in a very dark hole.”

He pleaded with readers to go easy on Amanda: “Imagine being the breadwinner in your household before you can even drive.”

In closing, he called for Amanda and anyone else in his life, past or present, to understand that he’s got their backs and encouraged them to reach out to him or others.

“So I say to my sister Amanda Bynes you’re not alone. I’m here for you. I understand. I care and I appreciate you, because that’s what family does and that’s what family is for. I also extend this to anyone else in my life, past or present that may find themselves in hard times. I’m here! Call me! Because I truly believe, the hand you’re helping up today may be the one you’re reaching for tomorrow. So not to be all cheesy and over sentimental but I got to end this with the ingenious Wither’s lyrics “Lean on me when you’re not strong and I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on. For it won’t be long until I’ll need somebody to lean on.”

In a recent interview with InTouch magazine, Nick said he has been praying that Amanda will get better and get the help she needs. Fortunately it seems his prayers may be answered!

According to TMZ, Amanda Bynes is doing much better. More than a week after being held in a California hospital for mental evaluation following an incident in which Bynes lit a fire in a stranger’s driveway, things are looking up.

The troubled starlet is reportedly in stable condition and no longer hearing voices after being given a series of medications; the mixture is said to be controlling what doctors believe to be schizophrenia.

A source close to the story says Amanda responded quickly to the medications. She has stopped talking to herself and is cooperating with hospital staff and authorities. In fact, the source claims Amanda has actually been polite, saying “please” and “thank you” and is no longer considered violent.

Though Amanda appears to be responding well to the current dosage of medications, the source says these things are difficult to gauge and take seven to 10 days to be entirely effective. Doctors have not claimed victory yet, but are hopeful.

Amanda is set to appear before a California judge today. Let’s hope all goes well!
