A boa constrictor that escaped from an urban zoo has killed a 5-year-old and a 7-year-old in Canada.

According to USA Today:

Two children living in an apartment above an urban zoo died from a boa constrictor that apparently got loose Monday in the Canadian town of Campbellton, the CBC reports.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. says the snake is believed to have escaped from the Reptile Ocean zoo located below the victims’ apartment.

The zoo, called the Reptile Ocean, calls itself an exotic pet store “open to the public for purchase and viewing.”

The Deputy Mayor of Campbellton commented on the tragic accident.

“The city is in shock,” said Deputy Mayor Ian Comeau.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the children at this time.
