The 15-year-old who was originally denied a heart transplant for his past behavioral problems has finally received his new heart.

Anthony Stokes is now in recovery after a successful surgery. Mark Bell, a spokesman for the family, confirmed today that Anthony was in surgery for five hours Tuesday evening.

The teenager, who suffered from dilated cardiomyopathy, in which the heart’s main pumping chamber, the left ventricle, fails to pump enough blood, was in the middle of a nasty battle just last week after the children’s hospital where he was being treated wouldn’t put him on the donor list.

After his family claimed the hospital was denying Anthony due to his bad grades and behavior, the hospital reversed the decision and made his case a priority.

He is expected to fully recover.

We’re just glad that both the hospital – and Anthony – had a change of heart.
