The only way you’ve missed Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman’s spirited interview with FOX’s Erin Andrews after playing the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, is if you are living under a rock.

In which case, you have to watch this:

Needless to say, the feedback was both hilarious and disheartening —  Sherman’s jab at 49er’s receiver Michael Crabtree spurred memes, racist commentary, and declarations that Sherman was unstable, mean and harsh.

Now, the football player is apologizing for his actions, explaining in a MMQB column that he is not a villain.

It was loud, it was in the moment, and it was just a small part of the person I am. I don’t want to be a villain, because I’m not a villainous person. When I say I’m the best cornerback in football, it’s with a caveat: There isn’t a great defensive backfield in the NFL that doesn’t have a great front seven.

Sherman also addressed his post-game comments in an interview with ESPN on Monday.

“I apologize for attacking an individual and taking the attention away from the fantastic game by my teammates … That was not my intent,” Sherman said Monday in a text message to ESPN’s Ed Werder.

“Obviously I could have worded things better and could obviously have had a better reaction and done things differently,” he said during the interview. “But it is what it is now, and people’s reactions are what they are.”

Hey, don’t be sorry for telling them why you mad! Read Sherman’s column, To Those Who Would Call Me a Thug or Worse, here.
