An accused killer in Kansas is, naturally, worried about the verdict his trial may bring, but not for the reasons you’d think.

Jeffrey Chapman, who was charged with the first-degree murder of Damon Galliart in November 2011, is worried his “MURDER” neck tattoo will send the wrong message in court.

Obviously.

Afraid that the mirror-image tattoo might prejudice a jury, Chapman is asking for a professional tattoo artist to remove or cover it up. His attorney agrees, saying in a motion that the tattoo would be extremely prejudicial if seen by a jury.

According to the Huffington Post:

Prosecutors say they aren’t opposed to Jeffrey Chapman covering his tattoo, but Barton County’s sheriff says he’s against transporting Chapman to a licensed tattoo facility — the only places tattoo artists are allowed to practice under Kansas law.

Chapman’s trial is set to begin on Monday. There is no word on whether Chapman will undergo the procedure to have the tattoo removed or covered up. Which, trial or no trial, he should have made this smart decision a long time ago.

Because…reasons.
