It’s slightly sickening to continuously see celebrity parents being criticized because of the way they do (or don’t do) their children’s hair. Along with their parents, children like Blue Ivy and Cree Hardrict are being publicly attacked because their natural locks are allowed to roam free. Or, in Cree’s case, are tied up into a neat little bun.

I can’t stress this enough: They’re kids. Even if they looked bad, which they don’t, they. are. kids. Do we remember what we looked like as tots running around?

The idea or implication that Black kids just have to tie their curls up is closed-minded. The idea that Black boys can’t wear their hair in a bun is also closed-minded. But honestly, Tia Mowry’s recent response to the criticism of her son’s hair, which went along with the photo above, was flawless – so here that goes:

I am proud to have a SON that embraces his natural hair :). Hair length does not define your sex. Last I checked a penis and a vagina does. Pick up a book, educate yourself, and embrace cultures outside of your own and maybe you will see that there are PLENTY of MEN wearing top knots and MEN with long hair. Here’s a shout out to all the moms who have boys and girls with natural hair! 😘 Live ON!

To drive our point home, we gathered a bunch of photos of celebrity toddlers rocking their natural hair… whether wild, tied, braided, dreaded, or otherwise. Because all of it is super cute.
