Two suspects are in custody following a Detroit shooting that left a 3-year-old child dead.

Amiracle Williams was killed Thursday afternoon and three others hospitalized after the incident on Detroit’s east side. Police say the gunfire was spurred by a big fight at a nearby high school.

One person was shot at the high school and three others, including the 3-year-old girl, were shot on Mogul Street.

Detroit EMS transported three people — a 40-year-old woman, a 17-year-old girl and a 46-year-old man — to St. John Providence Hospital. Their conditions are not known at this time. The 40-year-old was shot in the back, according to sources. The teen was shot near her neck. The man was shot in his stomach.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig, who was one of the many officers who responded to the scene, said the shooting may be gang-related.

“This is yet just another tragedy,” said Craig. “We’re still not certain what caused the dispute. We’re getting multiple accounts of what happened. We do know that it started at Denby, there was a dispute.”

“Right now, we’re not certain as to the connection, but we do have two in custody right now,” he said. “We have reason to believe that there is some gang involvement, that the individuals involved were members of a local street gang.”

“This ridiculous, cowardly gang violence — gang or any kind of violence — there’s just no place for it.”

Police are searching for four more suspects. Craig said authorities are working on getting descriptions of the suspects.

“We’re asking for the public’s help. Any information you have about a conflict at Denby High School would be helpful,” he said.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Amiracle’s family during this difficult time.
