She’s known for her no holds barred Twitter rants, but Harlem femcee Azealia Banks is deeper than that. And according to Azealia, her issues with Iggy Azalea and T.I. are deeper than rap.

In an effort to promote her long-delayed debut album, Broke With Expensive Taste, Azealia Banks stopped by Hot 97 to discuss her new album, being black in America, and of course, Iggy Azalea.

On Iggy Azalea being nominated for a Grammy for “Best Rap Album:”

“Put Iggy in the pop category. Put her and Miley Cyrus in the same f*ckin’ box together. Don’t put her in hip-hop. Just because she’s singing, does not mean she’s rap music….When they give these Grammys out, all it says to white kids is, ‘You’re great. You’re amazing. You can do whatever you put your mind to.’ And it says to black kids, ‘You don’t have shit. You don’t own shit, not even the shit you created yourself.’ And it makes me upset.”

Getting emotional, Azealia continues:

“At the very f*ckin’ least, ya’ll owe me the right to my f*ckin’ identity. And to not exploit that sh*t. That’s all we’re holding onto, like hip-hop and rap.”

Azealia’s interview is definitely worth watching, so press play up top.
