Sarcasm: It’s a language that not everyone speaks eloquently. And back in January 2002, we said goodbye to one of the most sarcastically fluent ladies ever: Daria Morgendorffer. Except not really, thanks to a couple of things called the Internet and streaming services.

Just because it’s been 13 years since the series ended, doesn’t mean its wisdom has faded. Since then, the way we dress has changed (although here we are, over a decade later with wardrobes full of ’90s nostalgia—crop tops and grunge galore), but a lot of the lessons we’ve learned from the show still hold value to this day.

Granted, Daria herself was not a part of The Fashion Club, but she still taught us a thing or two, especially about wardrobe staples. Green jacket, check. Circle specs, check. Black boots, check. Keep on scrolling to see what else we learned about fashion and beauty from Daria.

Fashion is pain—they don’t call them killer heels for no reason. That’s a well-known fact, but we’ve got to know when to draw the line between trendy and torture.

We live in a world where appearance is everything. But we also live in a world where we’re free to not give any phucks about what others think of us. For the win.

Beauty sleep. It goes beyond the desire to wake up feeling as flawless as Beyoncé. It really is vital for our survival. Seriously, get those eight hours in, girls.

All black everything, that’s been the fresh code. Sorry, Jay Z.

But it’s more than tossing on a bunch of black pieces. There’s levels to this ish.

Bras: What are they good for? Absolutely nothing! Besides, like, offering support and lift from time to time. But other than that, who needs ’em?

Nails done, hair done, everything did. You have to do a lot of ish just to live this cute lifestyle. Phew, it’s exhausting.

Everyone’s all about being and looking “edgy.” The head honchos of the corporations know this, and they’re cashing in. Cha-ching.

Waterproof mascara is a thing for a reason. Invest in it, beloved.

Body modification should not be just another trend, though it has been as of late. You can take that Burberry blanket poncho off, but the scarring from those dimple piercings are forever.

There’s nothing wrong with wearing makeup, as long as you’re wearing it to make you feel good about you and no one else.

Know your angles. Find the light with your face. Keep that selfie game on point.

That body of yours is the only one you have. Learn to love every bit of it, from its curves to its crevices.

Follow the fads if you want to. No matter what, though, there’s nothing more hip than being true to yourself.
