Jagged Edge’s Kyle Norman was arrested early Thursday morning after he attacked his fiancée during an argument, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

Police were called to the couple’s Atlanta home around 5 a.m. His fiancée – who hasn’t been identified – told police they got into an argument after she tried to talk to him about his drinking. The 38-year-old allegedly beat her up, choked her with a scarf, and shoved her engagement ring down her throat while telling her, “You’re going to die today.”

The fiancée of a member of a popular R&B group was taken to Atlanta Medical Center early Thursday with welts under her eyes, a golf ball-sized knot on her forehead, a cut to her nose and a blood clot in her right eye.

“She stated that she began to agree with things that he was saying in an attempt to calm him down,” the officer wrote. “While doing that he turned around and walked away inside their loft and she ran and grabbed his cell phone and was able to run outside and awake a neighbor who let her inside.”

Norman was caught later when police found him running down a sidewalk nearby. He reportedly told the police he needed to go to jail. He also claims he was irate over his father’s cancer diagnosis.

Norman was charged with aggravated assault and given a bench warrant for criminal trespassing.

Jagged Edge released their fifth album, J.E. Heartbreak II, in October 2014.
