Let me take ya back a few years… “Still Tippin” was killin the airwaves…people were sippin syrup, saying “Who?… Mike Jooooones” in a nasally voice, wearing shirts that said “What it Dew”, and everybody including myself was sporting a grill.  Houston owned the music scene.  With many prominent artists dominating the charts it felt as though we had finally arrived.

Now fast forward a few years and people outside the city are constantly asking “What happened to Houston… why did ya’ll fall-off?”  I say that we’ve never left!  We have stayed on the music scene with songs/albums/mixtapes from UGK, Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Chamillioniare, Mike Jones, Lil Flip, Trae, Z-Ro, etc.  And let’s not forget the R&B side with LeToya & Beyonce.  In fact today is a big day with releases from LeToya Luckett & rap group Young Problemz!

While the Houston artists may not have moved as many units as in previous years, you must look at the music industry as a whole.  Albums just don’t sell as much as they used to anymore.  Everything is moving in a digital direction and downloads are taking over.  The fact remains though that these Houston artists are still standing and continue to make music that is sold, downloaded & played on the radio.  How is that falling off?

Houston has never left and I’m very proud to say Dallas has come up alongside with acts such as Dorrough, Lil Will, GS Boys, Big Tuck, Fat Pimp, Damn D, etc.  So for all you doubters out there, why don’t you take a quick trip to Texas and experience not only the good food, shopping and people but also a rich music culture that has a history like no other!  Awwwready!
