The music business is quite fickle. You can be here today and gone tomorrow, whether you’re an artist or exec. Quite often we see rappers who get one or two hit songs, put out videos for the songs, and then the album drops and falls on deaf ears. Not only lack of promo and buzz ruins an artist’s rep, but legal issues and public incidents are also a factor in an artist’s longevity. There’s quite a few artists who suffered from some setbacks, but these five definitely need to get their act together and drop something this year. Check out five rappers who need to bounce back this year.

Yung Berg

Yung Berg’s definitely had a tough journey throughout his rap career. From the chain snatching incident, to the sucker punch out in LA, to the house robbery, it seems like Berg’s at the mercy of the public. Hopefully he won’t be a victim any more this year and comes back with a follow up to ‘Sexy Lady.’

Mystikal

Before he went in, New Orleans Mystikal found much success with his hits, ‘Shake It Fast’ and ‘Danger’. He was sent to jail for sexual battery for six years, and was released this year. He’s already put out a song with Lloyd called ‘Set Me Free,’ which made it’s rounds on the web. I’m interested in seeing what Mystikal does to make a comeback.

Charles Hamilton

How one goes from being one of XXL’s Freshman Class of 2009, to getting dropped from their label, I’m not too sure, but most would say that Charles Hamilton ethered himself. Maybe it was the claims of J. Dilla production on his debut album, or the punch he received from Mary J Blige’s stepdaughter, but after a little hiatus, CH stepped back on the scene with his Normalcy mixtape. It’s just a matter of time to see if Charles comes back with great music, or if he’s blackballed from the industry.
