Nikki Blonsky Spills The Beans On Kissing Zac Efron And Her New Off-Broadway Play (PHOTOS)
“Hairspray” actress Nikki Blonsky is taking a break from movies and hitting the off Broadway stage in a play entitled “Love, Loss, and What I Wore.” GlobalGrind caught up with the young busy actress to get the scoop on kissing Zac Efron and being a plus-sized actress in Hollywood.
GlobalGrind:“Love, Loss, and What I Wore” is tonight, how do you feel?
Nikki Blonsky: I am excited. I am a little bit nervous. Being a native New Yorker and making my theater debut in New York, I am just totally excited and ready to do the show!
GG: What can an audience member expect from “Love, Loss, and What I Wore?” Can we get a synopsis of what to expect?
NB: I think the audience is going to find that “Love, Loss, And What I Wore” has so much in it. There are so many stories that the audience can relate to, that they’re going to laugh at, cry with, and smile with. It’s so brilliantly written by Nora Efron and amazingly directed by Karen Carpenter. I think everybody is going to find something to relate to in it. Men, women, everybody, and I think that they’ll be laughing at some points and they’ll be crying at some points. It’s just a fun show to be a part of and we really engage the audience and we want them to have a fun time too.
GG: “Love, Loss, and What I Wore” is composed of short vignettes, can GlobalGrind get a sneak peak of what you’ll be doing?
NB: I get to talk about my prom which isn’t my real prom dress. It isn’t my real prom dress, but it is the character’s prom dress. This is something every girl can relate to. I talk about getting married on stage and then in another story I get married on stage to another woman. We definitely talk about gay, lesbian, bi-sexual topics. I get to play a lesbian on stage tonight, as well as a funny story about a heavy-set character. Go figure! It’s all a lot of fun. I also play one of three sisters who fell in love with this guy and didn’t take the advice of her sisters and runs off with him. I play a variety of different characters and as I keep going through the show I fall in love with all of the characters more and more.
GG: Which character do you like to play the most?
NB: I have to say the vignette as one of the sisters. It’s a tie between that one and the one I marry a woman. Having a family that’s really involved in my life, I realize there are always people protective of you and sometimes you don’t see that they’re doing it for your own good. In this scenario that’s exactly what they’re doing. They’re trying to protect their sister, and she falls head over heels and spends seven years of her life with this guy. She’s not strong in the beginning but by the end she’s had enough and says get out! She kicks him to the curb and she’s much happier in the end.
I’m very proud to be playing a character who is a lesbian on stage, and exchanging vowels. That is something that I hope that more states pick up, legalize marriage-gay marriage, and get the ball rolling. It’s enough people. Let people who love people get married. Whether it’s two guys, two girls, girl on guy, it doe
