Detroit’s debt is an estimated $18-20 billion, and last week the city had to file for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection – making it the largest bankruptcy filing for a city in U.S. history.

Taking note of this, Beyonce paid tribute to the Motor City on her “Mrs. Carter World Tour” with a heartfelt rendition of Sam Cooke‘s “A Change Is Gonna Come” at The Palace of Auburn Hills this past weekend.

As she performed on stage, the screen behind her displayed a photo montage of Detroit landmarks and icons that included Aretha Franklin, Aaliyah, Eminem, Anita Baker, and more. It ended with the words: “Nothing Stops Detroit!”

Beyonce also performed “A Change Is Gonna Come” at the “Chime For Change” concert in London.
