It would take an entire article to fully give credit to those launching pads that drove DJ Khaled’s career into super stardom. From DJ Nasty to Fat Joe to Slim and Baby, they all deserve his salute. Khaled’s latest album, Suffering from Success, is an ode to the last 10 years of his music career. The latest song “I’m Still” is crazy hot. Like a sandwich at The Carnegi Deli, “I’m Still” features a slice of Ace Hood, Wale, and Wiz with Chris Brown in between. “I’m Still” is guaranteed to have that commercial success that Khaled seems to suffer so much from….

There’s a lot of new R&B singers trying hard to break into the game right now, very few of them really have true talent. Most of them have gotten on not because of their talent, but because of who they knew or slept with…ouch. That said, the ones you should really admire and check for slip through the cracks. The incredibly talented singer Yuna is one of those. And her latest song “Someone Who Can” is so refreshing to the ear. I promise you will repeat.

Shout out to ‘errybody’ in town for the CMJ Music festival. CMJ, though not as groundbreaking and gritty as it was in the late 90’s/ early 2000’s, still has the dopest underground acts striving to make a name for themselves. Peep this new track by Blu & Nottz “Crooks In Castles” (get it?) It features a bevy of underground super heroes, including Homeboy Sandman, Sene, Johaz and ANTHM. Hope you have a neck brace handy.

Dom Kennedy should be some label’s priority artist set break 2014 wide open. Out here on the cold ass east coast, we’re not privy to the hot sounds that Kennedy constantly delivers to the cali airwaves. His latest track “Get Home Safely” takes you on a walk through Dom’s rise in the hip-hop game.
One of the hottest unsigned hip-hop artist you may have never heard of, coming from that Nola known as New Orleans, is Curren$y. He is lyrically somewhere in between Lil Wayne and Jay Electronica. His new song “442” features Weezy and Birdman. It’s that dope hidden gem you might find on the B Side of one of DJ Drama’s mixtapes. Hopefully one of these labels will give Curren$y’s JetLife campaign some wings real soon.
Until we read again.
