After Typhoon Haiyan initially hit the Philippines there was an early death toll count of about over 100 and since 300 people have been confirmed dead on Samar Island in the central Philippines, in addition to 10,000 people believed to have died in Tacloban city on Leyte Island.

According to reports the Leo Dacaynos of Samar province’s disaster office said Sunday that 300 people have been confirmed dead in Basey town and another 2,000 are missing.

And in more heartbreaking news, there are still other towns on Samar that have not been reached.

The NY Times reports:

President Benigno S. Aquino III declared a “state of calamity” in provinces encompassing islands across the breadth of the Philippines. The declaration is designed to release emergency funds from the national coffers.

But those coffers have already been depleted this year by a series of other natural disasters, most notably an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 that also struck the middle of the country four weeks ago.

Folks have been taking to social media outlets to release their condolences, prayers, thoughts and updates on the aftermath. Amongst them were photos that will leave you silently devastated.

With caution, see the heartbreaking photos we rounded up below.
