A photo of Kiana O’Neil, the teen who was fatally shot by her step-father in her home, has been released. O’Neil is said to have been sneaking back into her home when she was gunned down.

According to reports it is now unclear if her step-father mistook her for a burglar when he fired the shot that killed her.


A 14-year-old girl is dead in northeast Colorado Springs, CO after her stepfather shot her on Monday, believing she was a burglar.

The names of the girl and her stepfather will not be released by police, as the investigation is ongoing.

According to a statement from police spokesman Larry Herbert, the shooting happened just before 6 a.m. on the 4300 block of Ascendant Drive, off North Carefree Circle and Peterson Road.

“The initial call came in as a burglary-in-progress,” Herbert said.

No arrests have been made in the shooting.
