It’s a step in the right direction. The Justice Department is set to expand its definition of racial profiling to include religion, national origin, gender and sexual orientation — prohibiting federal agents from considering those identifiers in investigations. Read about it here…[NYT]

Former judge, asshole and current Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas hurled an insult at same-sex couples when he told them to “get some basic plumbing lessons.” Gohmert was discussing recent rulings legalizing same-sex marriage when he summed up the decisions of judges as saying, “‘Basically, we haven’t seen any biological evidence to support marriage being between a man and a woman.’” Rude. Fucked up shit that happens in Florida strikes again. Police in Hollywood, Fl. discovered nearly 100 rape kits that sat untested since 2005. That means physical evidence such as bodily fluids, fibers, hairs and blood weren’t used in matching assailants to victims — aka, no arrests made. Read about it here…[HuffPost]

Eerie. Newly surfaced audiotape of Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza calling into an Oregon radio station show that the troubled young man waved a red flag before the 2012 massacre. Using the name Greg and disguising his voice, Lanza weighed-in on mass murder by comparing “a teenage mall shooter” to Travis, a chimpanzee who became infamous after ripping the face off a Connecticut woman in 2009. “His attack can be seen entirely parallel to the attacks and random acts of violence that you bring up on your show every week, committed by humans, which the mainstream also has no explanation,” Lanza says of Travis at one point. “I just … don’t think it would be such a stretch to say that he very well could have been a teenage mall shooter or something like that.” Read about it here…[NYDailyNews]

Two are dead after a gunman opened fire inside a Martin’s Super Market store in Elkhart, Indiana. Police shot and killed the 22-year-old gunman, who lived in the area. The victims are described as a 44-year-old female shopper and a 20-year-old Martin’s employee. Police say the gunman had his firearm pointed at a third person when they arrived, but they fired at him before he was able to shoot. Read about it here…[WNDU]
