A Spring Break street party went horribly wrong this weekend, when over 100 people were arrested in California following a chaotic melee.

According to USA Today, over 100 people were arrested and 44 were injured after a day party at the University of California-Santa Barbara. The party, titled ‘Deltopia,’ was attended by an estimated 15,000 people. Police say violence erupted at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday after an officer was hit in the face with a backpack full of alcohol.

“Our community is in shock today over what happened last night,” Kelly Hoover, spokeswoman for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, said. “It’s unbelievable to see people throwing rocks, bricks and bottles and beer cans at law enforcement officers.”

The crowd ripped stop signs from their posts and lit small fires in the streets. Police tried to handle the crowd using pepper spray, tear gas and foam projectiles. Two people were also stabbed and five sheriff deputies were injured. University spokesperson George Foulsham spoke about the arrests and made it clear that the party was not thrown by the university.

“The actions of some of the participants involved in last night’s incidents were outrageous and extremely dangerous,” he said. “Any of our students found to have violated the law or university policies are subject to university sanctions.”

Officers haven’t given word if there are students still in custody. Watch video of the crazy street party above.
