President Obama is no stranger to the fist-bump. He does it with his wife, First Lady Michelle Obama. He does it with awkward politicians before he delivers the State of the Union address. And apparently he hands them out when someone makes a really great joke.

That’s just what happened during the President’s trip to a famous Austin, Texas barbecue joint last week. Obama was photographed giving one of those infamous fist-bumps to an employee behind the counter at Franklin Barbecue, but it was the joke and the show of support that really has us rooting for the President.

From the Washington Post:

When Obama got to the front of the line, Daniel Rugg Webb, the employee who was about to take his order, slammed down his hand on the counter and said, “Equal rights for gay people!”

The president had a question. “Are you gay?” he asked Webb.

“Only when I have sex,” Webb replied.

Obama then laughed, according to Webb, put out his fist and said, “Bump me.”

Like, we can’t even.

Webb, who said he wished he had donned the yellow sequined dress that he sometimes wears to work, told reporters the fist-bump was his favorite part of the day.

“It was just a lucky day to be the register girl. That’s my favorite part because it was cool to get a joke in,” Webb told the Chronicle.

But best of all, Webb threw the ultimate shade, letting reporters know he was all about welcoming the President, but doesn’t have time for Texas Gov. Rick Perry (who, by the way, refused to shake Obama’s hand when he arrived in Texas last week).

Webb said restaurant employees were told that Obama would be stopping by. Webb said he believes that if Perry had come in, “I would have lost my job. I would’ve taken that old queen to town.”

We’re kind of sad that didn’t happen. Check out the cool photograph of Webb and President Obama above.
