You know what they say, you should never judge a book—or in this instance, a magazine—by its cover.

Olivia Wilde graces the front page of Glamour magazine, and at first glance, it looks like all the other September issues hitting stands this month. Of course the blue-eyed beauty is a bombshell, but it’s what’s inside the magazine that’s even more beautiful.

Three months ago, the actress welcomed the birth of baby boy Otis with her fiance Jason Sudeikis, and since then, she’s embraced everything that comes along with motherhood – like breastfeeding – and she allowed photographer Patrick Demarchelier to capture it on camera.

The shot is one of the very first photos she’s shared of Otis, whom she cradles in her arm while feeding in the middle of a diner in a Roberto Cavalli dress.

“Being shot with Otis is so perfect because any portrait of me right now isn’t complete without my identity as a mother being a part of that. Breastfeeding is the most natural thing,” Olivia says. “I don’t know. Now it feels like Otis should always be on my breast. It felt like we were capturing that multifaceted woman we’ve been discussing—that we know we can be. You can be someone who is at once maternal and professional and sexy and self-possessed.”

When she was ready to have a child:

“I never wanted to [bow to] that pressure of ‘I’m getting old, my eggs are dying, I must breed.’ I wanted to know myself pretty well before I started a family. I had made big life changes in my twenties, with getting divorced [from filmmaker and Italian prince Tao Ruspoli] and kind of restructuring my career, and I didn’t want to start a family in chaos. I feel anything that starts in chaos ends in chaos.”

How she had her “second chance” at 30 years old:

“I think turning 30 allowed me to feel that I could have whatever career I wanted, regardless of what I’d done so far. I could have an intimate relationship, regardless of relationships I’ve had. There was really no reason that I shouldn’t achieve all the things that I had dreamed.… In Hollywood, in this industry, you think, I am this person to the public, and maybe they won’t accept me in another way. [But] you have to allow yourself to keep evolving.”

On being a feminist in Hollywood:

“When I speak at panels, I sometimes get asked about women’s roles in the media and how we’re perceived. Someone will always call me out, like, “But you posed on the cover of GQ in a bikini. So how can you seem to understand why that hinders us as a sex?” Well, wait a minute. I can speak with authority about the state of women in the media because I am part of the machine itself. And also I’m allowed to evolve and grow up.”
