No, we can’t change the cards we’re dealt, but, as we were shown during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, those cards can be a source of inspiration for one of the most amazingly mystical collections shown at the pavilion at Lincoln Center.

Of course, we aren’t talking about your regular ol’ playing cards here. It was David Palladini’s tarot cards Australian designer duo Nicky and Simone Zimmermann sought to channel in their Spring/Summer 2015 collection. They interpreted his Art Nouveau illustrations not just as graphics on clothing, but through their use of bohemian layering and even in the shoes adorned with many moons.

And adding to that fortune-teller feel of the whole line was how the models’ looks were completed: huge hoop earrings and a touch of gold eyeshadow at the corners of the eye, as if they were walking down the runway with a gaze that knew just what the future held.

Trends spotted: Layers upon layers upon layers. There was no such thing as “too much” in this collection. Also, mark my words: metallic/leather pleated skirts are definitely in—the concrete catwalk was full of them. The future, it seems, is now.

Faces in the front row: Shay Mitchell (Actress, “Pretty Little Liars”), Jessica Hart (Model), Leandra Medine (Man Repeller)

My rating: The strong use of gold fabrics and other metallics made this one a winner for me. Zimmermann may’ve quite literally given us the cold shoulder with tops that aloofly bared some skin, but the fluidity of the whole line was perfectly balanced between the structure and styling of all the pieces. I’m not a pretty-purple-lace lover myself, but I just might be converted after seeing this collection.

My favorite look: The delicate purple lace dress paired with a pinstripe sleeveless coat—It was a perfect blend of feminine yet masculine, but not in a complete menswear sort of way.
